Cosmetic Microbiology Testing

Cosmetic microbiology testing ensures the safety and quality of cosmetics, toiletry, personal care, and household products. Cosmetic analysis testing involves the analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products to confirm their microbiological quality and adherence to specified limits. Cosmetic microbiology testing, often conducted following standards such as ISO 17516 'Microbiological Limits', employs various methods including those outlined in ISO 21148, ISO 21149, ISO 16212, ISO 18415, ISO 21150, ISO 22717, and ISO 22718.

By assessing factors like total viable count (TVC) bacteria, yeast, mould, and the presence of specific pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, businesses can detect and address any microbial contamination that may pose health risks to consumers.

Optional cosmetic analysis tests for Gram-negative bacteria and other spoilage-causing organisms enhance product safety and longevity. Lab testing for cosmetic products not only ensures regulatory compliance but also fosters consumer trust by delivering products of consistently high quality and safety standards. Cosmetic microbiology testing mitigates risks associated with microbial contamination, upholds brand reputation, and ultimately safeguards consumer health and satisfaction.

Cosmetic Microbiology Testing Methods and Preservation

Our cosmetic microbiology testing methods use various approaches to ensure the microbiological quality of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products. At our cosmetic testing laboratory, we offer a range of testing methods aligned with ISO standards, including ISO 17516 for Microbiological Limits. This includes Total Viable Count (TVC) for bacteria, yeast, and mould, as well as detection tests for specific pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans.

Optional tests for Gram-negative bacteria provide an insight into potential spoilage organisms. Enumeration and detection tests cover various microbial groups such as mesophilic anaerobes, lactic acid bacteria, coliforms, and spores.

Preservative cosmetic efficacy testing, anti-bacterial assessments, and stability evaluations are also conducted following standardised protocols. We also support testing regimes with batch release, quantification, characterisation, and identification of organisms, as well as offering comprehensive reports and updates to clients.
